It works by promoting proper absorption and use of calcium and phosphate by the body in normal bone development and maintenance and also manage low blood calcium levels in patients who are on chronic kidney dialysis. CALCITRIOL may prevent phosphaturia  by inhibiting parathyroid hormone (PTH) secretion.
