COMPOSITION-

Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose 2%,Sodium chloride 0.49%,Potassium chloride 0.075%,Calcium chloride 0.048,Magnesium chloride 0.03%,Sodium acetate 0.39%,Sodium Citrate 0.17%

Pharmacology

HYDROXY PROPYL METHYL CELLULOSE (HPMC)- HPMC is an active ingredient in LUBRIGEL GEL DROP also called as artificial tears. HPMC is a semi synthetic and viscoelastic polymer which used in the treatment of dry eyes. HPMC reach cornea by passing anterior segments against the flow of aqueous humour and diffuse throughout vitreous humour, HPMC functions by trapping water and making film or coat on the surface of eye which serves as barrier to water loss having water retain ability for longer period of time. Through the stability and thickness it moist the cornea. HPMC have following advantages-

Non pyrogenic and non- antigenic
Mucilage have greater clarity
Inert substance
Does not have systemic absorption because very less amount of drug passes blood-retina and blood-aqueous barriers.

SODIUM CHLORIDE- It is a hypertonic solution which is helpful in drawing excess water out of cornea. There is nothing to be confused about LUBRIGEL because sodium chloride is used as precaution to corneal edema. If excess of water retains in cornea it may cause corneal edema. POTASSIUM, MAGNESIUM AND CALCIUM CHLORIDE- These three elements are used as mineral supplements. These are used to maintain the optimum level of potassium, magnesium and calcium in the lens of eye. They works as excipients in LUBRIGEL.

Indication and Usage

Lubrigel is indicated to use in the treatment of Keratitis, dry eyes syndrome, post cataract surgery, keratocunjuctivitis and computer syndrome. Also useful in symptoms like burning, itching and sensitizing reactions in eye.

Dosage and Administration

ADULT, CHILDREN AND ELDERLY DOSE– Instill 1 drop into the effected eye (s) 3-4 times a day or as directed by physician.

Warning and Precaution

Before using LUBRIGEL tell your doctor about following-

medical history
hypersensitivity reactions from HPMC
remove lenses at least 15 min before using LUBRIGEL

ADVERSE EFFECT- As per literary data there is no side effects is notified yet except-

Brief blurring on administration which is automatically clear by itself.

Slight stinging sensation on administration
Irritation and/or itching of the eyes
