MODE OF ACTION- Gatifloxacin as Fluoro-Quinolones has the property to inhibit the two important enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV. DNA gyrase is an essential enzyme that is involved in the replication, transcription, and repair of bacterial DNA. Topoisomerase IV is an enzyme known to play a key role in the partitioning of the chromosomal DNA during bacterial cell division. The ability to target both enzymes has been promoted as a major advantage of these agents in preventing or delaying the emergence of resistance. The binding of Gatifloxacin with the enzymes interferes in the activities discussed above ultimately resulting in cell death.

Bacterial invasion in conjunctivitis (pinkeye) caused by susceptible strains of the following organisms:

• Aerobic Gram-Positive Bacteria
• Staphylococcus aureus
• Staphylococcus epidermidis
• Streptococcus mitis group
• Streptococcus oralis
• Streptococcus pneumoniae
• Aerobic Gram-Negative Bacteria
• Haemophilus influenzae

• GFC eye drops(0.3% Gatifloxacin)- Instill one drop in the effected eye(s) three times a day or as administered by the eye doctor.

• Growth of Resistant organisms
• Organisms with Prolonged Use
• Avoidance of Contact Lens Wear
• Carcinogenesis, Mutagenesis and Impairment of Fertility
• If irritation persists or increases discontinue use and consult an eye doctor.

SIDE EFFECTS- Eye burning, stinging, irritation, itching, redness, or tearing; blurred vision; eyelid swelling or itching; or a bad taste in the mouth may occur.
